Deploying teachers into classrooms who are confident and ready to lead these at-risk kids back to learning is the best gift you can give. And only technology – in this case cell phone data plans – can connect teachers and prepare them for the mammoth task of welcoming back students who have lost a year of education.

About the Campaign
The digital divide — the widening chasm between children who have access to technology that keeps kids connected to learning, and those who do not — has always been a problem for the most at-risk children in the world. And the COVID-19 crisis only aggravated the problem.
In the indigenous Guatemalan communities where Child Aid works, children without easy access to computers, tablets, cell phones or an internet connection had few ways to continue learning during mandated school closures. These children fell behind academically. Teachers fell behind, too, having no way to reach their students or continue training activities with Child Aid.
That’s when Child Aid came up with a solution. A survey revealed most of our teachers had smartphones but not robust data plans. So, Child Aid paid for data packages for our educators, and with the aid of cell phone connectivity, our organization developed learning materials and training activities and found ways to connect with teachers in new ways. Child Aid trainers and teachers use their cell phones to disseminate learning materials and continue training activities.
Unfortunately, cell phone data in Guatemala is an expense many teachers cannot shoulder themselves. This is where YOU can HELP.
